Patriot Rail
Patriot Rail has reported receiving a 2025 USA TODAY Top Workplaces award, which honors organizations with 150 or more employees “that have created people-first cultures.” This year, more than 42,000 organizations were invited to participate.
“The winners are recognized for their commitment to fostering a workplace environment that values employee listening and engagement,” according to Patriot Rail, which operates 31 short lines, three excursion trains, and support services for customers, including transloading, railcar storage, and real estate and logistics planning and assistance. “The winners are determined by authentic employee feedback captured through a confidential survey conducted by Energage, the HR research and technology company behind the Top Workplaces program since 2006. The results are calculated based on employee responses to statements about Workplace Experience Themes, which are proven indicators of high performance.”
Commented Patriot Rail CEO Brandy Christian: “We are proud to receive a Top Workplaces award by Energage and USA Today. Our teamwork culture is more than just a corporate value; it’s the driving force behind our achievements and the foundation of our future growth.”
“A Top Workplaces award catapults a company’s culture strength on a national level, setting them apart in a highly competitive arena,” added Jerry Hall, President and Chief Operating Officer at Patriot Rail. “This accolade is a strong morale-boosting honor for our more than 500 employees and a powerful recognition for attracting top talent in the freight rail transportation industry.”
Separately, Patriot Rail will partner with Canadian Pacific Kansas City to establish a new multi-commodity transload facility on CPKC’s Alliance Subdivision in Denton, Tex. The facility, the companies reported earlier this month, “will offer reliable, competitive transload services and logistics solutions to customers in the Dallas–Fort Worth Metropolitan area, one of North America’s fastest growing regions.”
HESR

G&W on March 30 reported via LinkedIn that HESR is celebrating 40 years of service to customers in Michigan. Acquired by G&W in 2012 and spanning 331 miles, this short line interchanges with CN at Durand; Great Lakes Central Railroad at Durand; and Lake State Railway at Saginaw and Bay City.
G&W’s First Coast Railroad celebrated its 20th anniversary earlier this month and Portland & Western Railroad, its 30th anniversary in February.
G&W in 2024 marked 125 years of service with a November celebration in Jacksonville, Fla., where it has a corporate support center that employs nearly 200 area residents, and with a May celebration at the Rochester & Southern, where the global Class II and Class III railroad conglomerate got its start in 1899.
Don’t miss G&W CEO North America Michael Miller on April 24, when he kicks off Railway Age’s third-annual “Young Professionals” conference—the industry’s only free event tailored to helping fast trackers in the rail freight, passenger, and supply communities advance their careers—to be held virtually at 2 p.m. ET.
